Krishnagiri: The district administration has initiated steps to issue birth certificates to all children in the age group of 0 to 3 years in Krishnagiri, Kaveripattinam and Bargur blocks.

As part of the Child Friendly Village Planning (CFVP) process a household survey is being conducted by facilitators of UNICEF in 7 blocks in Krishnagiri district.

During the survey facilitators enquired families about the registration of birth and issue of birth certificates.

Details of children without birth certificates were collected and the list was given to the VAOs.

It was found that a sizeable percentage of the rural population had not received their children's birth certificate due to lack of awareness.

As a result rural parents found it difficult to enrol their children in appropriate schools.

On instructions from the Collector, Santhosh Babu the Revenue Divisional Officer, Maheshwari, conducted a meeting of Revenue Inspectors and VAOs of Krishnagiri, Kaveripattinam and Bargur blocks on Thursday.

The RDO instructed the VAOs to meet VHNs on the 15th of every month and collect details about newborn children in respective hamlets.

The certificates will be issued to the families immediately she said.

CFVP facilitators would act as a link between the VAOs, VHNs and the families. SHGs attached to Integrated Village Development Project (IVDP) have come forward to bear the full cost of getting birth certificates for children who have not received them within 21 days.

The certificates would be enclosed in a laminated sheet and distributed to the families concerned free of cost by IVDP.

This programme would be subsequently extended to Hosur, Thally, Kelamangalam and Shoolagiri blocks pointed out sources.
