Both prepaid and postpaid subscribers to benefit from new schemes
PONDICHERRY: If you have a BSNL prepaid connection and have the habit of messaging your friends at night, then BSNL has a new offer for you. It has slashed the rates of messages sent at night. Between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. the cost of one message, which was 60 paise, has now been cut to 30 paise. Also, the cost of calls has been reduced from 90 paise to 70 paise per 60 seconds.
BSNL General Manager R. Marshall Antony Leo and Deputy General Manager A. Robert Jerard Ravi told presspersons here on Thursday that the BSNL was launching another service for prepaid customers. "It is called the `Family and Friends Plan' and the call charge to two selected numbers (one of them has to be a landline) is 10 paise a minute. The numbers can be anywhere in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai."
The GM and DGM also launched a new scheme for postpaid customers called Plan 725, in which calls to BSNL cellular and WLL lines in the Tamil Nadu circle will be free. Calls to fixed lines and other networks would be charged at 40 paise a minute. The customers also get to send free message within the Tamil Nadu circle.
Mr. Leo said that they would soon launch a Fixed Line Prepaid (FLPP) service. "The customer can choose between local, STD or ISD facilities, and also fix the upper limit on the prepaid card. The telephone exchange will automatically record and deduct calls from the limit. You can recharge your FLPP with cards that will be available through franchises," he said.
"Broadband services have been made operative in all telephone exchanges in the Pondicherry SSA. We will soon be upping the service and introducing multiplay service that can support an average of 50 kbps per customer, and IP TV traffic with 150 channels and video on demand," Mr. Ravi said.
A. Selvam, Sub-Divisional Engineer (Marketing), said that the BSNL had launched a service along with Yahoo to provide value-added services through SMS to its customers. A new `Ringtone Download Contest' will be launched from August 7 to introduce the service.
Following the success of the Pleasant Thrill Offer launched on July 14 , BSNL has launched another service called the Cool Colour Offer. They will be offering a colour Motorola C257 GPRS-enabled mobile for Rs.2,799 along with a BSNL starter pack, and a Nokia 1600 for Rs.2,999.
