Last date for nominations will be September 27
Krishnagiri: On the first day of filing of nominations for the local body elections, as many as 33 candidates filed their papers for the post of village panchayat ward member before the Assistant Returning Officers concerned, in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts on Wednesday.
The total number of nomination papers filed in the blocks in Dharmapuri districts is as follows: Dharmapuri- 5, Nallampalli - 5, Morapur - 3, Pappireddipatti - 2 and Karimangalam - 2.
In Krishnagiri district, 16 candidates filed their nomination papers for the post of village panchayat ward member before the Assistant Returning Officers concerned.
Of this, five candidates filed their papers in Bargur, followed by Uthangkarai - 2, Hosur - 3, Veppanapalli - 4 and Shoolagiri - 2.
On Tuesday, District Election Officer and Collector, Santhosh Babu, said that the elections to municipalities, panchayat unions and town panchayats in Krishnagiri district would be held in two phases, on October 13 and 15.
Releasing the public notice of elections, Mr. Babu said that polls for Thally, Hosur, Veppanapalli, Kaveripattinam and Mathur panchayat unions and Hosur municipality, Mathigiri, Kaveripattinam and Nagojanahalli town panchayats would be held on October 13.
Elections for Krishnagiri municipality, Kelamangalam, Shoolagiri, Krishnagiri, Bargur and Uthangkarai panchayat unions and Kelamangalam, Bargur, Denkanikottai and Uthangkarai town panchayats would be held during the second phase on October 15.
Filing of nominations was open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m on Wednesday. The last date for nominations would be September 27. The model code of conduct would be in force till October 28.
Scrutiny of nominations would be on September 28 and withdrawal of candidatures till 3 p.m. on September 30. Counting of votes would commence on October 18.
The total number of voters in Krishnagiri district is 11,29,962 including 5,70,608 men and 5,59,354 women. The total number of voters in rural local bodies is 9,49,816 (4,78,311 men, 4,71,505 women) and urban local bodies 1,80,457 (92,297 men, 88,160 women) Mr. Babu added.
