Police party nabbed him with the help of an informer

CHENNAI: High drama preceded the arrest of a person at the entrance of a cinema hall on Jawaharlal Nehru Road at Ekkaduthangal after a Sub-Inspector of Police from Kancheepuram fired in the air on Saturday evening.

G. Dorairaj, Joint Commissioner of Police, South, said a team of police led by Sub-Inspector, Ravi from Kancheepuram, came to the cinema hall after they received information that a criminal they were looking for was in the theatre with two of his accomplices. Mr. Dorairaj said that around 6 p.m. the police team waited near the entrance of the theatre till the matinee show was over. When the criminal, Senthil with his accomplices came out in a car, the police team surrounded his vehicle. In order to threaten the criminal, Mr. Ravi opened fire in the air.

Following this sudden development, tension descended on the area. When a few police personnel from the MGR Nagar police station arrived at the spot, the team from Kancheepuram informed them about the arrest and took away the group in their vehicle to Kancheepuram, Mr. Dorairaj said.

Another officer said the special team sent an informer, who managed to sneak into the group that the team was after. According to the plan devised, the informer was to bring the gang to a place and where the police team would arrive and arrest them.

The plan worked to an extent and the informer brought them to a cinema hall and even while the show was on, the informer alerted the police.

The arrested persons were wanted in connection with a few criminal cases in a village near Madhuranthagam in Kancheepuram district, he said.

However, after the incident, the MGR Nagar police have registered a case. The Revenue authorities would enquire into the circumstances that led that Sub-Inspector firing in the air, the officer added.
