TIRUCHI: The State Government wants to strengthen the foundation-level education through a common pattern for Standards I to X from the next academic year, Minister for Higher Education K. Ponmudi said on Wednesday.
Addressing the silver jubilee celebrations of Padmabhushan Sri N. Ramaswami Ayyar Memorial Polytechnic College for Girls, he said a committee had been charged with arriving at a common syllabus to do away with disparities caused by the State board, the Central Board of Secondary Education and the Anglo-Indian and Matriculation patterns.
The uniform pattern at the higher secondary level would do higher education good.
Mr. Ponmudi said the Government was aware of the need for recruiting teachers on a massive scale to fill vacancies in schools and colleges.
While the fortunate of students could fend for themselves through the Internet, for many others, mere institutional infrastructure without teachers made no sense at all, he said.
Collector Ashish Vachhani launched the web site of the polytechnic college, pbsnrpoly.com, and released a souvenir.
