Krishnagiri: As part of the total sanitation campaign, training in school sanitation and hygiene education would be held in 234 clusters in all blocks in the district from September 6 to 22.

Five to eight schools would participate in each cluster, said Collector Santhosh Babu here on Tuesday.

Team to be formed

An eight-member team, including a headmaster, teacher, parent-teachers association member, two boys and two girls and self-help group member would represent each cluster.

On completion of training, the headmaster would form five student committees in each school, including drinking, water, food and hygiene, toilets maintenance, classroom cleaning and school environment committees.

The teacher would take the responsibility of guiding the other committees in the schools.

Role model

Student peer educators would lead the committees and would be a role model in maintaining sanitation and overall cleanliness in the school. A total of 14,524 children, including students from 1,687 Government and private schools and 1,028 anganvadi centres in the district would get awareness about personal hygiene and sanitation promotion activities during the programme.

The students would disseminate information and knowledge and create awareness among parents, peer groups and neighbours about hygiene promotion activities. The District Administration was taking steps to provide sanitation facilities among all anganvadi and Government schools in the district, Mr. Babu added.
