Actor Kamal Hassan does the honours

CHENNAI: One of Chennai's landmarks, the Shanti cinema complex, now has two screening halls.

The smaller hall, Sai Shanti, was inaugurated last Friday by actor Kamal Hassan at the remodelled complex. After the inauguration, the visitors watched the screening of songs from the Rajnikanth-starrer Chandramukhi' (produced by Sivaji films) and `Thevar Magan' (which featured the peerless Sivaji Ganesan and Kamal Haasan).

Asked why they chose the name `Sai Shanti' for the new hall, actor Prabhu said, "It all happened due to God's grace. My father had an illness and after recovering he was unsure about whether to act in films or not. He went to meet Satya Sai Baba. Their meeting lasted nearly an hour. Our father came out and said he would continue acting. He then signed up for `Once More' featuring Vijay.

"Later, he told us that Sri Sai Baba had praised his acting talent. When we decided to build the new hall, we initially wanted to name it `Mana Santhi' (peace of mind), but then changed it to `Sai Shanti'.
