CHENNAI: Handicrafts exhibitions have been planned in the city with Deepawali specials as the focus.
`Deepavali Mela' is one such exhibition organised by Art Collection at D.K. Marriage Hall, 3rd Avenue, Anna Nagar. With over 100 types of handicrafts and 25 varieties of handlooms, the expo promises a pleasant shopping experience for art lovers.
Inaugurated by actress Kaveri on Thursday, the exhibition contains handicrafts from different parts of the country. Besides the usual articles, it also showcases bags from Kutch made by village artisans, Chettinad antique items and black metal from Hyderabad.
Lacquered bangles in brilliant hues is sure to catch the attention of women. Bengal cotton, Lucknow chikan work and applique handlooms from Orissa are some of the attractions in the handlooms section.
The exhibition also has a wide variety of home furnishings, artefacts, jewellery and furniture.
It is open between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. till October 19.
There is a 20 per cent discount on handlooms, 15 per cent discount on jewellery pieces and 10 per cent discount on handicrafts.
