Will take up proposal for new roads with State Government
TIRUCHI: The Petitions Committee of the Legislative Assembly will recommend to the Government for expeditious sanction of a proposal to lay an 80-feet link road between Anna Nagar Main Road and Cantonment in Tiruchi city at a cost of Rs. 3.2 crore, its chairman, R. Sakkarapani, said here on Wednesday.
Addressing the media after reviewing the petitions, Mr. Sakkarapani said that the committee would also recommend to the Government the proposal for establishing a fire service station at Kannanur in the district.
The committee, comprising MLAs A. Soundarapandian, Udayam Shanmugam, R. Ravi, S. Damodaran, Arul Anbarasu and Tamilarasu, earlier held a day-long meeting at the Kalaiarangam here reviewing the petitions of the general public.
Collector Ashish Vachhani, District Revenue Officer Lily, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), P. Anandaraj, and senior administration officials were present during the meeting.
Mr. Sakkarapani said that the panel had received a total of 499 petitions of which 63 were new ones.
A total of 17 petitions on which recommendations were made by the previous committee, were taken up for review again.
The present committee formed in August held its first meeting at Chennai and covered Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore and Karur districts till now. The panel would visit Dindigul, Theni and Sivaganga districts in the near future, he added.
Mr. Sakkarapani said that the district administration had given an assurance for establishing a new transformer at Rakapatti in Musiri taluk within one and half-months at a cost of Rs. One and-a-half lakh following complaints of power supply interruptions.
