CHENNAI: The Samudhra Magazine, celebrating its fourth anniversary, will confer the `Gnana Samudhra' title on S.A.K. Durga, ethnomusicologist and Indian classical music singer.

Founder and Director of the Centre for Ethnomusicology, Chennai, she got her Masters and Decorates in Indian Music and Ethnomusicology from the University of Madras and Wesleyan University, U.S.A, and her post-doctoral research in Ethnomusicology at Yale University, U.S.A. She was on the full-time faculty in the Department of Music in the University of Madras for four years. Her post-doctoral thesis was a comparative study of Gregorian and Vedic chants and Thevaram hymns at the Yale University. She has fused different styles of music at several performances. The American Theatre group, New Your, awarded her the title `Skylark of India'.
