"NLC poised to transform into corporate conglomerate"
CUDDALORE: Neyveli Lignite Corporation has bagged the meritorious award for "Corporate social responsibility and responsiveness" instituted by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE).
A statement released by the NLC stated that Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Santosh Mohan Dev presented the golden trophy to NLC Chairman-cum-Managing Director S. Jayaraman at a function held in New Delhi on Wednesday. It was presented in the presence of SCOPE director-general Diwan and Chairman-cum-Managing Director Behuria.
The management of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) was planning to purchase its requirements through e-procurement, and probably from the next financial year a large number of items would be included in this category, according to S. Jayaraman, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NLC.
Mr. Jayaraman said this while delivering a speech at a function in Neyveli in connection with the Vigilance Awareness Week on Monday. Once the system was introduced it would bring down the cycle-time of procurement. He said corruption was the worst form of exploitation and the poorer sections were affected the most.
In its golden jubilee year, the NLC was poised to transform into a corporate conglomerate with expertise in mining, power generation, project expansions, land reclamation, afforestation and activities related to welfare such as education, sports, health, peripheral development schemes, etc.
The NLC hospital provided free treatment to the general public and in- patient facilities at a very nominal cost.
NLC Directors K.S. Anandan (Mines), J.N. Prasanna Kumar (Finance), A.R. Ansari (Project and Planning), V. Sethuraman (Power), P. Babu Rao (Pesonnel) and Chief Vigilance Officer V. Narayanan participated.
