CHENNAI: Two persons, who reportedly posed themselves as policemen, escaped with 15 sovereigns of jewellery from an elderly woman on busy Anna Salai here on Tuesday. Police said Kousalya (55), a resident of Triplicane Unnisa Begum Street, had been to Ellis Road near Anna Salai for shopping. Two persons told her that a woman had been murdered in the adjacent area and hence she may keep her jewels in safe custody.

Believing it, Kousalya is learnt to have removed her chain and handed it over to the `police' who escaped from the spot.

Triplicane police have registered a case and are on the look out for the robbers.
