COIMBATORE: The eligibility conditions for coffee growers to avail subsidies have been relaxed, a release from the Deputy Director (Extension), N. Rangaswamy Reddy, said.
Coffee growers are being given subsidies for re-plantation, water augmentation and quality upgradation programmes during the tenth plan period.
The subsidy for replanting unproductive old coffee plants is 20 per cent of the total cost. Twenty-five per cent of the total cost of water augmentation programmes is being extended as subsidy. Quality upgradation programmes attract 20 per cent subsidy on the total cost.
Coffee growers having up to 10 hectares alone were eligible to avail the subsidies under the above programmes up to 2005-06. The Government has now extended the benefits to coffee growers having up to 20 hectares (50 acres). For further details, they can contact the local liaison officers of the Coffee Board.
