Construction of about 2,000 houses nearing completion

KARAIKAL: The Lt. Governor of Puducherry, Mukut Miti, said here on Tuesday that construction of about 2,000 houses for the tsunami-hit families were nearing completion out of the 3,500 houses being constructed by the NGOs in Karaikal district.Addressing a function after handing over more than 200 houses to the tsunami-hit families at Keezhakasakudimedu in Karaikal district built by the Pondicherry Multipurpose Social Service Society (PMSSS), he said that the remaining houses would be built at the earliest possible time.

Rev. Fr. R. Ratchagaer, Executive Director of the PMSSS, said that CARITAS, an international social service organisation and a major donating partner of the housing scheme, was funding the project.

The society will construct 224 more houses in Pattinacherry in thedistrict.

Earlier, the Lt. Governor accompanied by the Collector, Sudhir Kumar, and others paid homage to the tsunami victims at the New Beach and placed wreaths on the second anniversary day.
