Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaru will be held at Kamarajar Arangam till December 26
CHENNAI: Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaru, a re-creation of the famous musical event held annually to mark Thyagaraja Aradhana, began in the city on Friday.
Led by P.S. Narayanaswamy, about 300 musicians on the vocal, tampura, veena, violin, mridangam, ganjira, ghatam, morsingh and other instruments began the session with the Ganesha kriti, `Sri Gana Pathi Nee,' and the Guru Vandana kriti, `Guruleka etuvanti,' and moved on to sing the five Pancharatna Kritis.
Organised by Lakshman Sruthi Musicals the event was backed by the Oriental Bank of Commerce.
Several leading artists including S. Sowmya, Carnatica brothers K.N. Shashikiran and P. Ganesh, V.V. Ramprasad, Sikkil Gurucharan, Sriram Gangadharan, Mahathi, Gayathri Girish and Rajesh Vaidya, participated.
Lakshman of Lakshman Sruthi Musicals who co-ordinated the programme in association with Kalalaya USA, Nataka Academy and the Rotary Club of Madras Mount, said the Pancharatna Kritis gave an auspicious beginning to the five-day music festival to be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m till December 26 at the Kamarajar Arangam.
