CHENNAI: Finding telephone numbers for neighbourhood services is often a challenge. The Chromepet New Colony Resident's Welfare Society here has been working to change that.

The Society greets its members for the New Year with an information sheet with contact information for a variety of needs, including emergencies. These range from civic agencies to old age homes to even funerals. The directory for 2007should prove to be a valuable resource for colony residents. There are telephone numbers of the Pallavaram Municipality, the Alandur MLA, the South Madras MP, Kancheepuram District Collectorate, Police, Civil Supplies, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Chromepet Government Hospital, BSNL, sewage removal services, and even the Vigilance Department, says Society president V. Santhanam.
