Developing e-content has become essential for teachers, according to R. Karpagakumaravel, Head, Department of Educational Technology, Bharathidasan University.

He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day workshop on `Educational technology and e-content development' organised by A.D.M.College for Women and Department of Educational Technology of Bharathidasan University at the college premises in Nagapattinam on Wednesday.

Prof. Karpagakumaravel said that the University Grants Commission was also insisting the teachers to produce e-content for their subjects. Professor A. Sivakamisundari, principal, who presided, said that the objective of the workshop was to motivate the faculty to get trained in new educational technologies.

Professor S. Senthilnathan of Bharathidasan University spoke on e-content development. Professor S. Mythili of ADM College, welcomed the gathering and Professor R. Sophia Porchelvi, programme coordinator, proposed a vote of thanks.

The NCC cadets of H.H. The Rajah's College, Pudukottai, celebrated e NCC Day on December 13. Cups, shields and medals won by the cadets were put on display. Addressing the cadets, the Commanding Officer, 9 TN Battalion NCC, Karaikudi, Lt. Colonel Sashi Mohan, commended the college NCC unit as one of the best sub-units of the region.

The Officiating Group Commander, NCC, Tiruchi, Col. M.N.Nath, lauded the role of the cadets during natural disasters such as tsunami and floods and the awareness programmes that they conduct. The various services rendered by the NCC go a long way in nation building, he said.

The principal, L.Kuppusamy, recalled his association with NCC, NSS and the Scout Movement. He spoke of how the training in NCC prepared students for a career in the Indian Army. The former Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Santhosh Babu, traced the illustrious tradition of the college and its increasing army of alumni. He appealed to the cadets to be informed of the constantly changing world by reading books and newspapers.

The cadets performed cultural programmes. The Administrative Officer, NCC Group Headquarters, Lt.Col.Vijayakumar, and the Company Commander, Lt. Pon. Rajarathinam, also spoke.

The J.J Institute of Nursing, Sivapuram, Pudukkottai, conducted a Staff Development Programme on `Self-efficacy through communication' recently. The Head, Department of Management Studies, J.J. College of Arts and Science, S. Mahendra Prabhu, was the chief guest. He emphasised the importance of communication in a medical institution where quick and accurate communication was essential to save lives. Speaking about Freud's id, ego and superego, he explained what each stood for. The Vice-Principal, Janaki, also spoke.

Srinivasan College of Arts and Science, Perambalur, organised a daylong seminar on `Inculcating the importance of reading habit.' The principals of Srinivasan Engineering College and Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Polytechnic College, Thayumanavan and Sugumar respectively, were the chief guests. The former spoke of how the habit of reading had enriched the lives of popular personalities, and how the habit has degraded among the youth of today. Mr. Sugumar underlined the importance of using the library extensively for coming out successful in the competitive exams. The Principal (in-charge), Srinivasan College of Arts and Science, S.H.Afroze, spoke on how books made a man complete. The resource person of the occasion was S. Beena who stressed the importance of reading books, newspapers as well as cyber media library. The founder of the college, A. Srinivasan, presided over the function.
