Land reclamation works taken up on every acre

Krishnagiri: Minister for Khadi Board, K. Ramachandran distributed pattas of 590 acres of developed wasteland to 730 poor agricultural labourers at the inauguration of the second phase of 2-acre land scheme for landless farmers here on Sunday.

During the second phase a total of 204.15 acres of `porombok' wasteland (without encroachments) were developed as against the target of 200 acres and distributed to 208 beneficiaries.

Similarly, about 385.53 acres of `porombok' wasteland with encroachments were developed as against the target of 300 acres and distributed to 522 beneficiaries. Land reclamation works to the tune of Rs.2, 500 were taken up on every acre, he said.

Mr. Ramachandran said that during the first phase a total of 24,271 acres of developed land were distributed to 23,440 beneficiaries across the State.

Agricultural families

Similarly, under the second phase a total of 25,806 acres were being distributed to 26,479 poor agricultural families across the State.

The State Government had waived cooperative loans to the tune of Rs.96 crore for the benefit of small and marginal farmers in Krishnagiri district.

The Minister also distributed marriage assistance worth Rs.1.50 lakh under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar scheme to 10 beneficiaries, economic assistance to the tune of Rs.15.90 lakh to 6 SHGs, old age pension to 20 beneficiaries and maternity assistance worth Rs.1 lakh under Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity assistance scheme to 100 beneficiaries.

Collector Santhosh Babu and Thally MLA Ramachandiran also spoke.
