CHENNAI: Carnatic musician Sanjay Subramanian was honoured with Sangeetha Kalasarathy award in recognition of his contribution to the carnatic music at the December music festival at Vidya Bharathi, Mylapore on Saturday.

Hosted by Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, the festival was organised for the 106th year.

The award comprising a citation, gold medal and cash prize of Rs. 5,000 was presented to Mr.Subramanian by the Jeeyar of the Ahobila Mutt, Sri Narayana Yatindra Mahadesikan.

Presiding over the function, Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, president of the Sabha said that the award was presented to Mr.Subramanian for his service to the carnatic music and for promoting music among youngsters.

He also announced that the lifetime achievement award, `Nadayogi,' would be conferred on renowned musician and musicologist S.R.Janakiraman on December 25.

Among those who spoke was A.Natarajan, former director of Doordarshan Kendra, N.Nageswaran, general manager (Regional Services) of Indian Oil Corporation. Veteran violinist, Kunnakudi R.Vaidyanathan was also honoured at the function.
