VIRUDHUNAGAR: A case has been registered against the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam candidate for Virudhunagar Parliamentary constituency K. Pandiyarajan for violating model code of conduct.

The case against him is that money and welfare assistance were distributed by a trust run by Mr. Pandiyarajan to some women and students at Aruppukottai on March 22 after the model code came into force.

The Aruppukottai Tahsildar, M. Duraipandiyan, lodged a complaint with Aruppukottai Town police on Monday.

An official statement said that the Highways Department had issued notice for removal of a fence put up to safeguard saplings along Vilampatti Road in Sivakasi in which the candidate’s name had been displayed as a donor of the fence.

If the directive was not complied with immediately, the officials warned that the fence would be removed by the department concerned and the expenditure incurred on it would be included in the candidate’s election expenses.

The district administration was also investigating into complaints that some trusts were trying to dissolve the self- help groups for women formed under Government schemes and re-group them as their own, the statement said.
