THANJAVUR: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa has taken an about turn in the Sri Lanka Tamils issue, said Dravidar Kazhagam leader K. Veeramani here on Saturday.
He told presspersons that Ms. Jayalalithaa, when she was Chief Minister passed a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on April 16, 2002 that LTTE chief V. Prabakaran should be extradited and tried for Rajiv Gandhi Assassination case in India.
She also said in the Assembly that Indian Government should send the Army to Sri Lanka to nab Prabakaran, and if needed, Interpol assistance could also be sought.
But now she has taken the Eelam issue for wooing voters. “Ms. Jayalalithaa has taken Eelam as the last resort in her campaign. There are inner contradictions within the alliance on the issue. CPI(M) is against creating a separate Eelam.”
Two of her party’s election manifestos in the past said that Sethudamudram project should be implemented. Now, in this election manifesto, she said that if a Government of her choice assumed power at the Centre, the project would be stopped. But her alliance partners Vaiko of MDMK, left parties and PMK were in favour of the project.
To keep communal forces at bay and for stability people must support the DMK-led alliance, he said.
