CHENNAI: Former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday urged Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to remove discrepancies in the pay scales of government doctors in the State and sanction them pay and perquisites on a par with Central government doctors.

In a statement here on Friday, Dr. Anbumani said the emoluments of doctors in Central service were were Rs.20,000 to 50,000 more than that of doctors in State service. While time-bound promotion opportunities were available for them, there was no such provision for State government doctors. In addition to regular pay, Central doctors received special allowances, which were not available to State government doctors.

The former Minister also urged the Chief Minister to increase the retirement age of doctors in State government service from 58 to 65 saying as they grew older, they would gain more experience.

He hoped that the Chief Minister would consider the doctors’ demands and issue necessary orders before the end of the Assembly session.
