MADURAI: The State government has issued a Government Order according revised administrative sanction for Rs.25.2 crore to construct residential quarters for the Madras High Court Bench staff here.
“A copy of the G.O. has been received by the principal seat in Chennai. The construction would begin as soon as the Public Works Department obtains technical sanction and completes the tender process,” a court official said.
Change in plan
The government had initially sanctioned Rs.19.38 crore for the quarters. However, the court officials wanted the building plan to be changed from three-storeys to four storeys leaving the ground floor for parking vehicles.
In view of the change in plans and escalation in the prices of raw materials, the PWD engineers here drafted a revised estimate for Rs.25.2 crore and forwarded it to the government on February 19 for passing necessary orders.
The proposal was pending with the government for the last three months due to the parliamentary elections.
The project would now come up on 3.67 acres of land near the Maattuthavani Integrated Bus Stand.
