TIRUCHI: The Headmaster of the Government Adi Dravida Welfare Higher Secondary School at Milaguparai here was caught red-handed by personnel of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Monday while accepting Rs.1,000, allegedly as bribe, from a B.Ed trainee.

A. Rajamanickam (57), who has been holding the post in the institution for the past decade, is said to have demanded money from the complainant, Rajiv Gandhi, a student of a private teacher training college in the city, for issuing performance evaluation certificate for having undergone 40 days’ teaching practice. Deputy Superintendent of Police, DVAC, R. Ambikapathy, said two other teacher trainees belonging to Pudukottai district, who were waiting to pay the money, were included as witnesses.

The headmaster was produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate and has been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days in Central Prison, Tiruchi. — Staff Reporter
