MADURAI: The Minister for Backward Classes Welfare, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, reviewed the functioning of the Kallar Reclamation schools in the district on Monday. He gave away cash prizes to the high-mark scorers in 10th and 12th standards of those schools.

The Minister went through the number of students enrolled in the schools, the results produced by each school in 10th and 12th exams in the last three years.

Mr. Ramachandran also discussed the issue of filling up the vacant posts in those schools with officials, including the Secretary for the Department of Backward Classes and Minorities, T.N. Ramanathan, and Director for Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities, were present.

Eleven students who had secured top marks in the public examinations were given Rs. 3,000 (first prize), Rs. 2,000 (second prize) and Rs. 1,000 (third prize).

The Sholavandan MLA, P. Moorthy, was present.
