: The police have decided to install 70 solar signals in all important junctions throughout the district at the earliest to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during peak hours.

According to police sources, as many as 12 signals have already been installed in different areas within Nagercoil.

Of them, some are not working and maintenance works are going on and they would be functional at the earliest. In the meantime, a solar signal had been installed at the busy Collectorate junction at a total estimated cost of Rs.2.60 lakh.

The amount was sponsored by a private party.

The operation of the solar signal was inaugurated by the Superintendent of Police, R. Balasubramanian on Thursday. It would function during power cut also. The installation of solar signals would be implemented in a phased manner.
