CHENNAI: The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam’s two nominees for Bargur Assembly constituency were among the 53 candidates whose papers were rejected on Thursday, the day of scrutiny of the nomination papers for the next month’s by-elections to five constituencies.

Now, 67 candidates are in the fray. While seven candidates will try their luck in Bargur, there will be 24 in Thondamuthur, 16 in Cumbum, nine in Ilayangudi and 11 in Srivaikuntam.

The papers of the DMDK nominees V. Chandran and M. Sundararajan were rejected, as the names of their proposers were not properly mentioned.

Chinnaraju (BJP); K. Thangavelu (DMDK) and E. R. Eswaran (Kongu Nadu Munnetra Kazhagam). Cumbum: N. Ramakrishnan (DMK); M. Sasikumar (BJP); K. Rajappan (CPI-M) and R. Arun Kumar (DMDK). Ilayangudi: S. Mathiyarasan (DMK); B.M. Rajendran (BJP) and Alagu Balakrishnan (DMDK). Srivaikuntam: M.V. Sudalaiandi (Congress); A. Santhankumar (BJP); G. Dhanalakshmi (CPI) and M. Soundarapandi (DMDK).
