The course equips persons with skills to take independent decisions
SALEM: There are a lot of opportunities for those who have completed company secretary course, Chairman of Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) of Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), Gopalakrishna Hegde said.
Participating in a career awareness programme and the inauguration of the oral coaching class for the company secretary course at Thiagarajar Polytechnic College premises here recently, he said over three lakh companies in the country had to appoint company secretaries. But the number of qualified persons remains low, he pointed out.
The ICSI is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Company Affairs and represents various committees set up by the Central Government.
The syllabus is set on par with international standards. The course equips the persons with skills to take independent decisions and advise the board of directors of a company in taking appropriate and timely decisions, he said.
Golden Gates Matriculation Higher Secondary School Correspondent Meena Sethu said more students should come forward to take up the course.
Education Officer Balaji made a presentation on career prospects of company secretaries.
Chapter Chairman S. Solaiappan, secretary N. Santhanam and Practicing Company Secretary Anuradha Santhanakrishan spoke.
Parents, students and members of the institute attended the programme.
