PUDUKOTTAI: The Judicial Magistrate and Chairperson of the Alangudi Taluk Legal Services Committee, R. Malathi, and its panel members inspected the works on desilting and deepening of the Thondaman Oorani, Keelathur Panchayat, under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), recently.

Deepening works are being executed on an outlay of Rs. 3.06 lakh and a total of 159 workers, including 148 women, are employed here.

She enquired with the workers the duration of the working hours, availability of drinking water, first aid box, and temporary shed for taking rest.

She strictly directed the officials concerned to provide drinking water and keep first aid kit at the spot instantly as per the guidelines of the NREGS Act. There were no complaints on the payment of wages, presence of fake entry of card holders.

She explained to the workers the legal literacy, awareness about Lok Adalat services rendered by the Legal Services Authority.

The Keelathur panchayat president assured to redress the grievances of the workers. The panel lawyers S. P. Raja, S. Vijaya, D. Palaniappan, senior administrative assistant, S. Rajendran and social worker, K. Senthilraja accompanied her.
