Sastra team wins championship in the best physique event
THANJAVUR: As a cricketer K. Srikkanth played with a lot of passion and self belief. And the former Indian captain advocated the same to the sportspersons during his valedictory address at ‘Colosseum ’09,’all-India inter-collegiate sports meet here on Sunday.
“It is not possible to achieve success without self belief. We could win the World Cup in 1983 because we believed we could. Whether it is sports or academics, be passionate about what you do,” he said. The chairman of selection committee advised the youngsters to face challenges and overcome obstacles with courage and determination.
Urging the students to develop positive thinking to reach greater heights, Srikkanth said that Virender Sehwag succeeded at the international level because of his positive approach to the game. “With this, he puts the opposition on the back foot immediately,” he added. Highlighting the important role played by sports in building character, Srikkanth said that it “teaches to handle failure”. Organised by the SASTRA University, the three-day ‘Colosseum ’09’ saw participation of more than 1,000 students from nearly 30 colleges. Basketball, badminton, chess, cricket, football, volleyball, table-tennis and best physique events were conducted. Amidst rapturous applause, the host won the team championship in the best physique event. Srikkanth gave away the prizes to the winners in the presence SASTRA Dean S. Swaminathan, Registrar S.N. Srivastava and the Director of Physical Education V. Paramasivam.
