RAMANATHAPURAM: Permission will not be given to organisers of Vinayaka Chaturthi celebration to install Vinayaka idols in new places, according to the Superintendent of Police, Pradip Kumar.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said they could install idols in the places where they installed and performed pujas in the last year.

In order to regulate and smooth conduct of the festival, instructions were given to the police officers not to encourage installation of idols in new places.

Similarly, the organisers would not be allowed to carry out Vinayaka idol procession in new routes.

Mr. Kumar said permission was granted to place Vinayaka idols in 154 locations. Round-the-clock police protection will be given to them. The organisers were asked to form a group of five persons each to provide security to the idols.

Incriminating slogans should not be raised during processions. Wall paintings hurting the sentiments of other religions should not be drawn.

He said that as far as Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations in Naripaiyur, the administration would strictly enforce the court direction.
