Polling officials asked to adhere to EC rules

Special arrangements made to send SMS from all polling booths to control room

KRISHNAGIRI: Election observer for the Bargur Assembly constituency, where by-poll is slated for August 18, Ananth Kishore has asked the polling officials to adhere to the rules and regulations of the Election Commission.

Addressing a meeting of zonal officers, assistant zonal officers and Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs) trainers at the collectorate here on Tuesday, he said that the officials should keep sufficient number of Form 49 (O) and register 17A in all booths.

Model code of conduct

He said since graffiti on government and private buildings have been banned in the constituency, severe action would be taken against any political parties violating the model code of conduct.

Rallies, banners and advertisements put up by the political parties should be informed to the observer and they should also be included in the expenditure account of the candidate.

Web camera

He said as per the instructions of the Commission, a web camera would be attached with a laptop in all the polling booths. The camera should not be directed towards the voter while they exercise their vote. But every voter would be captured in the camera.

Mr. Ananth Kishore also advised the polling officials to have a thorough knowledge of the functioning of the EVM.

All the EVMs have been designed to record the date and time of the voter register his/her franchise. In case of any problem during the process of counting, the problematic EVM could be connected to the printer and print out taken to know the details of votes polled He said special arrangements have been made to send SMS from all the polling booths to the control room and state election authorities, he said.
