Udhagamandalam: As part of the ongoing efforts to put floriculture on a firm footing in the Nilgiris the Department of Horticulture has drawn up a plan of action to impart intensive training to the flower growers in various parts of the district.

Stating this here on Monday, the Joint Director of Horticulture, R.Selvaraj said that there was a proposal to provide special training to farmers taking up cut flower cultivation for the first time. Experts from the Horticulture Training Institute in Pune would show 200 farmers how to grow carnation, lilium, gerbera, and bird of paradise.

While the training for 50 farmers in Udhagamandalam and surroundings would be conducted on December 19 and 20, it would be organised on December 21 and 22 for farmers in Gudalur and nearby places.

On December 23 and 24 farmers in Coonoor will benefit. Farmers in Kotagiri will be trained on December 25 and 26.
