CHENNAI: Sornammal Education Trust, a project of Ma Foi Management Consultants Limited presented ‘Ezhuchi Virudhu 2007’ to the 30 best performing self-help groups operating across the 10 zones of the city at a function here on Saturday.

The selection of the best SHGs were based on their frugal economic management, development of micro enterprises that helped their members come out of poverty and also significant contribution to the growth of the community at large.

Cash prizes were awarded to the winners and 10 Sornammal special awards were given to the best SHGs among the 550 groups formed and promoted by the Sornammal Education Trust.

“This prize has come as a very pleasant surprise and we are very happy to know that our small organisation is recognised. This recognition will give us the encouragement to strive even harder," said Sreelatha, one of the members of a prize-winning unit.

Speaking on the occasion, K.Pandian, Managing Trustee, Sornammal Education Trust said, “‘Ezhuchi Virudhu 2007’ is our way of encouraging and saluting the entrepreneurial skills of the self-help groups.

They have continuously toiled with utmost dedication towards improving the quality of their lives and creating a self reliant society by promoting entrepreneurship.”

B.Sivanthi Adityan, Chairman, Daily Thanthi Group of Publications was the chief guest while A.Subramaniam, Executive Director, Indian Bank, Vanitha, Principal, Police Training College and actor Prakashraj were the guests of honour.
