Coimbatore: District Collector P. Umanath has announced that officials concerned could be contacted at their respective mobile phone numbers in the event of any irregularities in the supply of essential commodities or other problems.

In a release, Dr. Umanath said that two types of family cards are issued under the Public Distribution System based on the applicant’s choice and not on the basis of his/her income. There are cards with no commodity option as well.

Those with a light green family card are eligible to get rice and other commodities. White family cards are issued to those who had opted for extra sugar instead of rice. These card holders are eligible to avail themselves of wheat, kerosene and commodities under the Special Public Distribution System such as wheat flour, maida, rava, palm oil and dal varieties.
