ERODE: Six cows and a buffalo died of foot and mouth disease in Gobichettipalayam area on Tuesday.

Gobichettipalayam and Periyapuliyur in Bhavani were the worst-affected areas, with the spread of the disease resulting in the death of many cows, buffaloes and bulls.

Last month, more than 200 animals died of the disease. Following this, a team of veterinary doctors visited the area, treated some of the cattle and instructed farmers to provide preventive vaccine to the bulls, buffaloes and cows in the area.

After some days, cattle in Sellammmal Nagar near Gobichettipalayam began suffering from the disease. On Tuesday, three cows owned by Sivagami and three cows owned by Samundy died. Similarly, a buffalo also died.

Following this, another team of veterinary doctors has rushed to the area and is taking steps to prevent the spread of the disease.
