UDUMALPET: Three lorries carrying 42.5 tonnes of rice meant for Public Distribution System were seized by authorities at Krishnapuram, near here, on Tuesday.

Four persons, including three drivers were arrested. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by district supply officer G.S. Ramadoss and Civil Supply CID inspector R. Mutharasu intercepted the lorries at Krishnapuram on the Udumalpet-Palani Highway.

According police, the lorries were from southern districts bound for neighbouring Kerala through Meenakshipuram check post.

Drivers Anandhan (27) and Satheesh (20) of Vadakkancherry of Kerala and Krishnamoorthy of Unjavelampatty near Pollachi, and cleaner Ammasai (29) of Ramanathapuram were arrested. Investigations are on about the owners of lorries and rice.
