POLLACHI: Muthammal (72) of Kolarpatty received order on Friday granting an old age pension without even visiting the taluk office of Sub-Collector’s Office in Pollachi.

All that she did was to submit her application online at Village Power Centre, run by a self-help group. She got the order in an hour after completing all formalities.

Coimbatore Collect Neeraj Mittal and Pollachi sub-Collector Vijay Pingale oversaw the functioning of online registration of applications at Kolarpatty.

They visited Kolarpatty, Unjavelampatty and Malayandipattanam, where the Village Power Centres were inaugurated a couple of days ago. “The basic idea behind the scheme is application of information technology at grassroots level to help the public.

They need not go to Government offices with their grievances. All they need to do is to submit their application online at these centres,” says Mr. Mittal.

The district administration has provided computer, printer, scanner and telephone connection with internet facility. The SHG members were trained by the administration to run the centres.
