“I will take up films with a right mixture of action and comedy,” says actor Vishal

TIRUCHI: Amid frenzied cheers of fans, the panache of Kollywood was recreated at Kalaiarangam, festooned at its best for the 50th day celebration of Malaikottai on Friday.

Members of the District Vishal Fan Club occupied the front rows of the theatre, while curious families sat at the upper-tier seats. Dressed in black T-shirt and matching jeans, Vishal appeared on the stage escorted by a host of his fan club members.

The pomp and glitter doubled when Priya Mani, in her flamboyant pink kurta and sand-blasted jeans, entered the auditorium.

Waving at the crowd briskly, the actors kept the audience’s zeal high by flashing bright smiles at them.

Effusive praises were showered on Vishal and the film’s director Bhoopathi Pandiyan, who kept a low profile throughout the function.

The crowds became restless when the speakers prolonged their speeches. Priya Mani, in her minute-long speech, thanked the crowd for cooperating with the film crew during the shooting of the film in the city.

When the honours were done, fans garlanded Vishal and crowned him with a flower circlet.

“I feel elated to see such a big crowd cheering my movies,” he said, waiting for the accompanying din to die down. The shooting schedule of Malaikottai, Vishal recalled, was hectic since the plan was to finish the movie in 100 days. “We worked on almost all days for three-odd months. The hard work has paid off,” he said, gesturing a salute to the audience.

The script was gripping and the co-artists, technicians and director got on well with one another to make the movie a success. Despite a mishap that resulted in a leg fracture for him, the shooting continued in a fast pace, Vishal said.

“I have never been bogged down by failures and working hard without any comprise right from Chellame. Comedy has become my forte and I will take up films with a right mixture of action and comedy.”

Next venture

The audience asked him about his next venture. Sathyam, in which he dons the role of a police officer, would be better than his previous movies, was his assurance to his fans.

Deputy Mayor M. Anbazhagan, producers T. Ramarao and Ajay Kumar, cinematographer Vaithee, editor Sasikumar, art director Maniraj and administrative producer Suresh Babu took part in the function.
