Annual competitions organised by museum

PUDUKKOTTAI: For D. Dineshkumar, a standard IX student of Jayarani Matriculation School here, it was yet another opportunity to express his artistic creativity. Wielding the brush, he painted an eye-catching image of the tri-colour and the Father of the Nation within 30 minutes.

He was one of the 60 participants in a painting competition organised by the Government Museum as part of Children’s Day celebrations in the district recently.

While Dinesh Kumar is participating in the annual event for the third consecutive year, there were a number of students for whom it was the first opportunity. For instance, A. Heera of Mount Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School wanted to take maximum advantage of the contest.

A cross-section of parents and teachers too felt that the competition served as a platform for students to exhibit their talent. A retired employee, S. Navaneethan, said his daughter Anitha of PSK. Matriculation HSS evinced keen interest in participating in the competition.

Despite inclement weather and the subsequent closure of schools, the interest among the students to win the competition came to the fore.

Meticulous efforts

Two painters, M. Ayyappa and M. Rajappa, who selected the best paintings, said they were surprised by the students’ creativity. The meticulous efforts taken by them in drawing the images of national leaders were praiseworthy, they added.

Curator of the museum C. Govindaraj said separate competitions for juniors and seniors were held in painting, singing and oratorical contests. Prizes would be distributed to the winners during the second week of November.
