1,000 expected to take part in it

TIRUNELVELI: To create awareness among the public and the younger generation on protecting the environment, the Bell Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai, will organise an ‘Eco Mini Marathon’ for 6 km here on Saturday at 7 a.m.

According to the principal, Renuka, participants will have to touch Samathanapuram Corner, St. John’s College, Public Park near Maria Canteen, Angelo Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Collector’s Bungalow, Muslim Orphanage, Tirunelveli Medical College and Government Law College before reaching the Bell School, which is also the starting point.

The participants, after collecting their caps and eco-badges, at the starting point before the City Commissioner of Police, M.N. Manjunatha, who will flag off the race, should also gather tokens at St. John’s College, Angelo Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tirunelveli Medical College and Government Law College to prove their participation from the first point to the last point.

Refreshments will be available at St. John’s College, Angelo Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Muslim Orphanage and Government Law College. School buses will follow the participants to pick-up the students who are not able to finish.

50 new saplings

“The Bell School, which has planted 50 new saplings during this year alone, is organising the eco-marathon for the third time and we expect more than 1,000 participants this time,” said Ms. Renuka.
