DINDIGUL: Small savings scheme, generating employment to hundreds of men and women in the district must become a people’s movement. Participation of people in this connection is essential for development of nation, said Collector P. Amudha.
Honouring the best performing agents at a function held here on Tuesday, she said district administration had collected Rs.40 crore and the target for this year was Rs.75 crore.
Having achieved the target in 2004-05 by local bodies, the government sanctioned Rs.1.31 crore for various works to be implemented at village panchayats.
This fund would be utilised for maintaining existing infrastructure at villages.
Agents must encourage every household to open a postal savings account this year to achieve the target, she added.
“Small savings not only fortifies family’s financial position but also ensures country’s prosperity.”
Savings habit must be inculcated among school children and also among beneficiaries of National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme..
