NAMAKKAL: The district administration has formed a committee to inspect the apartment buildings constructed by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board and the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance board.
The committee, formed under the chairmanship of Collector G. Sundaramurthi, has officials from the Housing Board, Slum Clearance Board and revenue department.
At a meeting of the committee held here on Monday, the Collector said that the committee would inspect the apartment buildings and submit a report about the structurally unstable buildings within a week.
These buildings would be demolished and new ones would be built.
People living in these buildings would be requested to move out to enable the demolition.
They would be given Rs.8,000 for relocation. A photo identity card would be issued to each member of the family, he said.
Steps would also be taken to construct the new buildings within a year and these would be allotted to the people who were former residents, he said.
The Collector appealed to the people living in the apartment buildings to co-operate with the officials.
Senior officials were present at the meeting.
