NAGAPATTINAM: With heavy downpour continuing for the sixth consecutive day, the district administration has appointed special officers to meet any eventuality and take remedial measures in case of emergencies.

Collector Tenkasi S. Jawahar has declared holiday for the colleges and schools in the district on Tuesday.

He cautioned fishermen against venturing into sea due to the continuous inclement weather.

The district administration has already opened a flood control room which is functioning round the clock.

The control room has been provided with a tollfree telephone number 1077 and the people can contact at any time for providing information on rain and floods.

An official press release issued here on Monday said that District Revenue Officer R. Gnanasekaran (mobile phone 94450 00921) was the special officer for the Nagapattinam revenue division, District Revenue Officer (Tsunami relief and rehabilitation) K. S. Kandasamy (94432 27033) was the special officer for the Sirkazhi taluk and the Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency G. Radha (94431 85600) was the special officer for Mayiladuturai and Tranquebar taluks.

Following officers in the rank of deputy collectors have been appointed to deal with the flood situation at the taluk levels: Nagapattinam Revenue Divisional Officer Christuraj (94450 00461) – Nagapattinam taluk; District Backward Class and Minorities Welfare Officer R. Pichai (94433 02977) – Kizhvelur taluk; District Supply Officer Veeramani (94450 00303) – Vedaranyam taluk; Assistant Director (Audit), Krishnamoorthy (93444 27087) – Tirukkuvalai taluk; Mayiladuturai RDO Mohamed Haneefa (94450 00462) – Mayiladuturai taluk; Assistant Director (Panchayats), Ramaswamy (94434 87309) – Tranquebar taluk; Special Deputy Collector (Social Security Scheme) Dhanabal (94425 58675) – Sirkazhi taluk.

The Collector said the people could contact these officers over phone and provide all information on rain and floods.
