MADURAI: Traffic will be regulated in the city on Tuesday in view of processions, rallies and public meetings to be organised in connection with the birth centenary celebrations of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar.

According to a press release from the city police, movement of lorries, heavy vehicles and loading or unloading of goods will be banned at Goripalayam, Alagarkoil Road, Panagal Road, Sellur Road, Albert Victor Bridge, Yanaikkal, New Bridge, Veli and Masi streets between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. City buses bound for Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Stand from Arapalayam bus stand should take the Guru Theatre Junction, Kamarajar Bridge, Fatima College Circle, Aruldaspuram Road, Thathaneri, Sellur Road, LIC Junction, Kulamangalam Road, Sellur 60-Feet Road, OCPM-Gokhale Road, IOC Circle, Pandiyan Hotel Junction, Race Course Road and Raja Muthiah Mandram route.

Vehicles bound for Teppakulam, East Gate, Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, airport, Periyar Bus Stand and railway station from Natham Road, Alagarkoil Road and Melur Road should pass through Periyar Statue / Raja Muthiah Mandram, K.K. Nagar, Anna Nagar, Kuruvikkaran Salai and P.T.R. Bridge. They will not be allowed to use the Tamukkam and Goripalayam routes.

The public have been advised to avoid the Thevar Statue route from 2 p.m. and take diversions as suggested by the traffic police.

From 2 p.m.

The following traffic regulations will be in force from 2 p.m.: Vehicles using the Yanaikkal new bridge should take a left turn at M.M. Lodge and use Zamburopuram, P.T. Rajan Road and OCPM Girls Higher Secondary School route.

When the rallies take the Sellur Road, vehicles will be diverted from LIC Junction towards Kulamangalam Road, 60 Feet Road, P. T. Rajan Road and OCPM School.

Vehicles bound for Tamukkam and Thevar Statue from P and T Nagar and P. T. Rajan Road should pass through Gokhale Road, IOC Circle and Periyar Statue.

When the procession of ‘milk pots’ starts at K. Pudur, temporary stoppages of traffic and diversions will be made on the route to Thevar Statue.

All vehicles from Periyar Bus Stand, bound for Goripalayam, Natham Road, K. Pudur, K.K. Nagar, Anna Nagar and Mattuthavani, will be diverted through South Marret Street, Palace Road, East Gate, Kamarajar Road and Kuruvikkaran Salai. Vehicles will not be allowed to be parked on Anna Statue Junction, East Veli Street, Vilakkuthoon and South Masi Street, the routes of rallies. Lanes and by-lanes in these areas can be used for parking.
