VILLUPURAM: An Army recruitment rally will be conducted at the Police Battalion Training Grounds, Ulundurpet, from October 31 to November 6, according to Colonel K. Haridas.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the Colonel said the recruitment would be for various posts in the soldier rank such as tradesmen, general duty, technical assistants, nursing assistants and clerks.
It was being conducted after a gap of three years. Candidates from Kancheerpuram, Vellore, Cuddalore, Thiruvannamalai, Thiruvallur, Chennai and Puducherry may attend it, he said.
As regards the number of posts to be filled, the Colonel said that it would be made known to those in charge of recruitment a day before the rally. The numbers were not disclosed because the authorities did not want touts to learn about it. Col. Haridas cautioned the prospective candidates against being taken in by touts. The recruitment was based on physical and mental ability of the candidates and no extraneous considerations would be taken into account, he added.
The candidates should bring 12 passport-size photographs and original documents such as community certificates, conduct certificates, nativity certificates, etc., along with duly attested copies.
The Colonel said that those less than 5 ft 6 inches in height and 50 kg in weight were not eligible for the posts. Collector Brajendra Navnit, Lt.Col. T.T. Singh and Subedar Major A.K. Sharma were also present.
