NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu has approved an outlay of Rs. 475.01 lakh for road improvement works in Tamil Nadu.
An amount of Rs. 238.66 lakh has been approved for improvement of Riding Quality (IRQ) work on NH-49 between Madurai and Silaiman village. This is one of the important highways which connect Madurai and Dhanuskodi.
In this stretch, the intensity of vehicular traffic is very high. Due to stagnation of water, lot of vertical and horizontal crakes have developed and lot of undulations have formed on the riding surface. Hence, it is necessary to take up the stretch for repairs and improvement immediately.
Mr. Baalu also approved an amount of Rs. 236.35 lakh for improvement of Riding Quality work on the same highway between Usilampatti and Andipatti Kanavai Medu in Madurai district. It connects Madurai and Cochin. It is reported that this stretch of the road is sunken, undulated and potholes are formed due to the recent rains.
