Senior officers requested to look for alternative
CHENNAI: With the November 15 deadline for handing over Government House in Omandurar Government Estate here to the PWD fast approaching, a hunt is on to find an alternative accommodation for the police units housed there.
The premises falls within the area earmarked for constructing a new Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly complex.
Given the number of units located in the building, popularly known as Admiralty Building, police officers feel finding another suitable structure may be difficult.
Senior police officers heading the different wings in the building have been requested to look out for another premises, according to a senior police officer.
Officials say though more than a month is available for handing over the building, various factors need to be considered for identifying a new complex.
The present complex is located on Anna Salai in a central area and can accommodate various units. Several of the rooms are spacious.
At present, the Admiralty Building houses the Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department, Economic Offences Wing, Cooperative Crime Investigation unit, Economic Offences Wing, Video-Piracy Cell, Idol Wing, Special Investigation Team CID and the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau CID. The various wings are headed by three Additional Directors-General of Police.
Lack of space
