MADURAI: The Health Department’s review meetings held in various districts have found that specialist doctors are in surplus in some government hospitals while their presence is inadequate in places where there is a dire need.
After a review meeting with officials here on Tuesday, Health Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran directed the authorities to undertake a State-level “re-distribution” of specialists for the benefit of people in the mofussil areas.
A senior official in the Directorate of Public Health, who attended the meeting, told The Hindu on Thursday that the Minister was particular that there should not be “accumulation” of specialists in a hospital. Instead, they should be available in all hospitals, from primary health centres to district headquarters.
