ERODE: The post of Registrar of Periyar University has been lying vacant for long and the Government and the university Vice-Chancellor should take immediate steps to fill up the vacancy.

This was unanimously resolved at the executive meeting of Zone IV of the Association of University Teachers (AUT), conducted recently at Erode. Zonal Chairman of the association C.S. Vairamani presided over the meeting.

The meeting resolved to urge the State Government to expedite the appointment of a Special Officer for the Salem Sowdeswari College “as the college management has committed serious financial and administrative irregularities and to save the teachers from the clutches of the management.” It resolved to conduct demonstration and observe a fast pressing the Government to take action against the college.

The zonal unit has also decided to request to the State Government and the Higher Education Department to declare Chikkiah Naicker College, Erode, as Government college as per the orders of the Madras High Court without further delay and thus, fulfil the aspirations of the people of the district, where there was no Government college.
